A cicada works for seventeen years as a data entry clerk in a tall office building. He doesn't have a home; he lives in the office wall space. Because he's not human, he never gets promoted, can't use the office bathroom, and he is bullied by humans. When it's time to retire, he has no money, no home, and no job. He goes to the top of the building and stands on the ledge. But it is here that he transforms into something beautiful and has the last laugh.
