Middle schooler Ash is struggling to cope with the fact that his mother abandoned him and his dad three years ago. He delves into his mother's old things from her childhood and into the shed where she created a fantasy world called Koretris, which is a haven for girls--no boys allowed. When Ash's friends use his mom's spell books to journey to Koretris, Ash discovers it's a real place with real danger. And Ash, who is a boy with he/him pronouns, wonders what it means that the spell let him in.
