Although twelve-year-old Ann is a slave, she is grateful to be with her family. But then her master falls into debt and plans to sell Ann and her younger brother to two different owners. Ann convinces her family to run away on the Underground Railroad but when her father is separated from the group, it's up to Ann to lead the family to freedom.
