After an incident of domestic violence by their father, eleven-year old Samantha and her older sister Caitlin are sent to live in rural Oregon with an aunt they've never met. Sam wishes things were like they were before she reported her father. When her aunt gives Sam a mysterious card game called "A Game of Fox & Squirrels," Sam falls in love with the charming trickster fox, Ashander. When he magically appears to take her on an adventure, his promise of granting her wish isn't fully honest.
