Seventeen-year-old Verónica Rentería has always dreamed of being a mermaid. Being in the water allows Vero to forget about her hip dysplasia, and it gives her a freedom she doesn't have on land. When Mermaid Cove, a popular local tourist attraction, announces they are holding auditions for professional mermaids to perform underwater, Vero thinks its her chance. But her strict and overprotective parents would never allow it, and things get even more complicated when she learns that her parents have sheltered her from the full truth about her medical condition.
