A boy and his family spend almost a year on Mars, after Earth becomes uninhabitable, before they decide to move to the faraway planet, Choom. They soon discover that it's hard to assimilate on Choom because the planet's inhabitants, the Zhuri, are not very accommodating. But if humans are going to survive, his family has to change the Zhuri's minds about humans.
