After TV-obsessed Jake Lightman's parents get divorced, he feels like he's being torn in two. His strictly Orthodox Jewish mother wants him to be "Yaakov," a Torah-loving kid who never watches TV, while his secular father wants "Jacob" to focus on math and science and turn his back on his Jewish faith. On the first day at his new school, he makes two new friends, Caleb and Tehilla, who see him as Jake, the "real" Jake. They want Jake to join them at their beloved Jewish summer camp, one too secular for his mother and too religious for his father, so the friends come up with a wild plan to help Jake attend camp without telling his parents the truth.
