Ten-year-old adopted vampire, Adam, has been raised by his two vampire mothers in Lacey, Washington, since he was abandoned in a Jewish synagogue and bitten to save his life. Though Adam aspires to be something more than a blood-sucker, his fourteen-year-old brother Victor wants to embrace being a vampire. When bodies begin showing up around town, Adam is compelled to find out what is going on and in the process, meets human amateur sleuths Luis and Shoshana. Together they deduce that a vampire hunter is on the loose and Adam realizes he and his family are in danger.
