Story of a Polish boy and an English girl whose fathers work in Africa and who are kidnapped by the Bedouin insurgents in the 1881-84 uprising against the British. The children manage to escape, and they wander for weeks in the deserts of Africa before being rescued. S.'s own travels in Africa in the years 1890-91 gave a measure of authenticity to this tale of gallantry, brutality and adventure.
